The Southern Iowa Mental Health Center was recently welcomed to the Albia community with a ribbon cutting held by Albia Chamber Main Street. The office opened in July and provides a variety of services to those seeking mental health care as well as other services.

The office offers access to therapy, substance abuse services, care coordination, targeted case management, peer and family supports and more. They offer services for both children and adults as well as telehealth options.

The main office is located in Ottumwa and offers an outpatient clinic, access center and 24-hour crisis line. They alsohave a 24-hour mobile crisis team that can be dispatched for children and adults experiencing a crisis.

The Albia office is one of seven other outreach locations in communities surrounding Ottumwa. The Albia office is located at 105 S.

Clinton Street just off the southwest corner of the Square. Other offices are located in Bloomfield, Centerville, Oskaloosa, Fairfield, Keosaqua and Sigourney.

Anyone interested in services can contact the office at (641) 931-4592 or can just stop by. Rob Breckinridge the Community Outreach Team Lead said care coordination is probably the biggest service offered. “Care coordination can be just about anything,” said Breckinridge. “It can help them find any kind of resource they need.

It can be something as simple as I just need to call and see who is accepting new patients for a primary care doctor, or I need help getting set up with a dentist. If you think of it, a care coordinator can help them through it.” Someone does not need to be suffering from mental health crisis to request services either, especially care coordination.

The Albia office is run by Shianne Streeter a Targeted Case Manager. Street said she helps people access services, resources, medications, complete applications for Medicaid or food stamps, set up appointments and more.

She can also go to peoples homes to provide even more targeted supportive services. “It’s just a good resource to have in the community” said Streeter. “We have therapists and med management provides that are open and willing to support anyone…we’ll do what we can to help you.” According to Director of Community Outreach Melia Mura, the Centerville office recently hired a new practitioner that can prescribe medications which would be the closest office providing that service, although the Ottumwa office would also provide that.
